Sheeple
4 Stars
Another gigglefest from Simon Carr that this time takes a sideways look at the world of conspiracy theories and turns the whole subject on it's head
An excellent plot with interesting characters that keeps you entertained throughout
Goblin Queen
4 Stars
Angry that his new born child is a girl, and not the male heir he was expecting the king disposes of the baby as if she never existed.
Rangalan is rescued by a goblin woman, is raised in a goblin
village and eventually rises to be goblin queen.
When she finds out that the king is out to enslave
goblinkind it is time to take revenge.
Well written and full of humour, the story follows Rangalan’s
quest to rid the land of her despotic father and bring peace between the human
and goblin people
The characters are nicely drawn and the dialog is designed
to make you chuckle.
Pie-Eyed!
4 Stars
A strange encounter in the Bull’s Head leads to a battle for the planet’s future.
Another nicely constructed and very funny product from the
deranged mind of Simon Carr.
To avoid spoilers, I’ll say no more about it
Galactic Wars Administration
4 Stars
The tale of a group of admin staff trying to submit the office timesheets whilst a galactic war rages all around them.
In typical Simon Carr style this, Star Wars parody, is full
of laughs and witty observations of the human condition.
Bob And The Blob
4 Stars
Bob never
dreamed he’d ever be abducted by aliens, nor did he think he’d find out that
Earth is a farming planet for the said alien race of blobs.
Snatched
from the comfort of his home Bob befriends one of his captors and the pair of
them set off on a quest to convince the universe that Humans are the dominant
species on Earth and not the Jellyfish as everyone assumes
Like all of
Simon Carr’s novels, this one is full of funny dialog and clever observations
which combined with the quirky characters is a darn good read / listen.
If you haven’t
read any of Simon’s stuff then this is not a bad place to start as it kicks off
the Apocalypse Blockers series which takes an ‘Avenger’s Assemble’ style by
introducing the main characters in their own stand-alone novels before
combining them into their own super team.
Spice, Zombie, Apocalypse
3 Stars
I'm a big fan of the lunacy that springs from the pen of Simon Carr but this one isn't one of his best offerings. Saying that, it still scores a solid 3 stars and is peppered with the laugh out loud society observations and witty conversations that are a mainstay of his work.
Simon's book are best read when you are alone - it stops all the stares and tutting
