From the author of The Needleworker's Baby and The Crazy One comes a short tale of friendship and letting go.
The year is 2070 and Gen-X retirees Magdalena and Sam are resigned to live out their days at Shady Grove Retirement Home. But when Sam can’t take another boring day inside the sterile institution, he convinces Maggie to break out. How far will the two nonagenarians get driving the California coast in a stolen van?
Sam and Magdalena's Great Escape is a novelette-- longer than a short story, shorter than a novella.
Review
When two nonagenarians realise that life is passing them by
at the Shady Grove retirement home they decide to break loose for one last
hurrah.
With a running time of just over an hour this is a witty,
charming, poignant journey as Sam and Magdalena reminisce about the good times
of their youth whilst evading their inevitable return to the home to see out
their remaining days.
Nicely narrated and well-paced with a heart-warming story of
friendship
