She was glad the school year had started, and she was able to focus on her courses and students instead.  

However, with the arrival of the new dean circumstances become both good and bad for Mila.  Though Sergei Vasilovici seems to be a challenging fellow with no real connections or much of a personal history, Mila finds him an acceptable replacement for Pietro Melnik as dean, especially when he offers her a promotion.  At the same time, he is not as amiable with the students, particularly Ivan Popov.  The two are seen arguing at Sergei’s welcome assembly and when Sergei is found murdered in his office the next morning Ivan is pulled in as the likely killer.

When she realizes what has happened Mila rushes to help Ivan. For though Ivan may be a womanizer and headstrong, Mila is very sure he is NOT a murderer.  Ivan's arrest also brings his brother Oleck rushing home from his posting in Kyiv.

The two join forces to help Ivan and soon discover that there is more going on than meets the eye…and maybe that applies to the two of them as well.  

 

Review

Another fast paced short read set in Ukraine where Oleck Popov has to race back to Chernivtsi when his little brother Ivan is arrested for the murder of the new university dean.

In this, the second in the Mila K. Mysteries, Oleck’s return renews the attraction between him and Mila as they are thrown together to investigate another perplexing mystery involving the local university.

This one has a good plot, familiar characters and packs a lot into its 71 pages

K.C. Brennan is a former geologist, an avid reader of mystery novels, and a bit of a history junkie. 

From a young age, she was a huge fan of all things and writers of mystery, including, of course, Agatha Christie, MC Beaton, Dorothy Sayers, and the like.

Favourite Books of 2023

With 2024 now nearly a week old, I thought I'd compile a list of my top ten books of 2023. Unfortunately I've not been able to whittle it down to just ten so I tried to make it my favourite ten authors. Once again I failed as there are so many great books I didn't want to leave out. Even so I've had to be harsh and leave out many that would've made last years list (what do you mean I didn't publish a list last year?
