With a rich intricate plot and strong forceful characters, Corrupted by Power tells the story of seven of the most powerful men in the world who abduct Mark at birth, and then educate him to become as ruthless and driven as themselves. Their sole purpose is for him to eventually become the Prime Minister of Great Britain and to do their absolute bidding.

The book outlines Mark's increasing anguish as he grows up and attempts to juggle a new found social conscience, in contrast to his 'Uncles' growing demands for his complete surrender to their total authority in a world of political corruption.

Inspired by the prophetic words of Microsoft's founder, Bill Gates, who predicted that 'the explosion of the internet would be dramatic, far reaching and lead to a new social order, - Corrupted by Power is both compelling and thought provoking in that it deals with real life concerns whilst proposing an alternative democratic process made possible only because of the internet.

A captivating political thriller with a twist, and a story of power and corruption that will undoubtedly come true one day, if it hasn’t already.

Review

Corrupted by Power is a fitting title for this story of how the rich seek to build up their power base and attempt to control those around them whatever the methods and consequences.

With political intrigue aplenty and a cast of interesting characters this was a joy to read. The final twist was a great way to finish and also sets up a possible sequel.

The writing style allowed the plot to develop at a good pace and the characterisation left you guessing about motives all the way through.

A thought provoking take on the British political system.
